自由法国 or the Free French forces is a country that is neither releasable nor formable and is instead created through an event chain which will start if
德国 defeats
法国 (allied to the
英国) in a war.
Free France acts as the counterweight to the collaborators of
维希法国 and is tag-wise considered to be the original France, while Vichy France uses a dynamic tag. Free France will seek to contest the Vichy regime's authority and eventually usurp it and reassert itself as the legitimate government of France.
Free France, however, starts off at a major disadvantage compared to Vichy France; while they do not have to worry about occupation costs or colonial unrest, Free France starts off with very little territory and resources and is considered to be a government-in-exile, meaning that if all other major powers in the allies capitulate, Free France will capitulate as well and Vichy France will become the legitimate government of France.
After the Fall of
法国 and the Second Armistice of Compiègne, French General Charles de Gaulle rejected the armistice being negotiated by Marshal Philippe Pétain and fled to Britain. In London, he broadcast the Appeal of 18 June (Appel du 18 juin) over the BBC, urging the French to resist against the Axis powers of
德国和
意大利 and, by extension, the
Vichy Regime.
While many French colonial territories rejected the appeal and reaffirmed their loyalty to Vichy, a good part of them, namely the French Equatorial Africa, the French Pacific possessions, French Guyana and French India, heeded the appeal and came to form the basis for an overseas French resistance movement led by de Gaulle. Over the course of the war, Free France would continue to gradually build up a military composed of colonial recruits, exiles from Metropolitan France and other anti-Vichy rebels and resistance members and, with significant assistance from the British, begun to contest the Vichy regime's rule over French overseas territories. Throughout the war, the Free French navy served as an auxiliary force to the
British Royal Navy and the other dominion navies of the ![]()

Free France, like Vichy France, is created through an event chain which will start if
法国 is
democratic, allied to the
英国, and capitulates when at war with
德国. If this happens, France is given the option of collaborating with the Germans (which will create
维希法国 if the Germans approve), continuing the fight regardless (which will allow them to continue on as
自由法国) or proposing a union with Britain (which will create the
法英联盟 if both sides approve).
Regardless of choices made, France will be split into both Vichy France and Free France and both sides will begin to contest each other over who is the legitimate successor to France.
自由法国 has a unique national focus tree as part of
La Résistance. Once Free France completes the tree, however, it will switch over to the regular French national focus tree (with the Review Foreign Policy path unlocked), Without the expansion, Free France will continue to use the regular French national focus tree.
Free France's unique focus tree has 2 main branches:
Free France starts off with the following national spirit.
Like
维希法国, Free France will inherit all technologies already researched by
法国.
When it comes to territory, Free France is a bit unusual. Free France will by default be granted control of French Guyana and the French Pacific and Indian possessions, which grants them some territory to operate from.
Additionally, however, Free France will also gain control over all French-owned and French-occupied territory not awarded to Vichy that is not a core state of the former occupier or any belligerent nation. This means that if France, for example, conquers and occupies Italian Libya (which is not a core state of
意大利 while Libya itself does not exist) and then capitulates, then all of French North Africa will be handed over to Vichy France, but Free France will retain control of Libya and even potentially establish its capital in Tripoli.
This means that if France occupies territories not cored by the original owner or any other belligerent before capitulating, Free France can gain additional territory to use for resources and manpower.
Unlike Vichy France, which has its government set to
fascism, Free France will inherit whatever political party makeup that France had before capitulating.

Since Free France can only be created by having France be allied with the
英国 and is a government-in-exile hosted by the UK, it will remain in the Allies.
Free France will retain whatever laws and ideas France had before capitulating.

As for the Free French military, the situation is even more unpredictable than with
维希法国. While Vichy France will usually retain control of at least a portion of the metropolitan, Free France, on the other hand, may, at best, receive control of a few colonial units and, at worst, nothing at all, forcing them to rely on colonial conscription and government-in-exile mechanics to build up a functional military. This also means that Free France's military performance will be dependent on how effective the Allies are in the war and how well the Vichy government is able to stop Free France's attempts to contest and take over territory.

In this particular situation, Free France finds itself disfigured by honour, strength and lands. At a certain time if it comes into its senses, Free France will merely declare war upon Vichy France to take back what is rightfully theirs. By pressure and by focuses, depending on the players decisions. The obvious choices for the free state is to rebuilt and assist
The United Kingdom to defeat the Axis in the current war.
In this particular scenario, not all has been lost. There is a bigger infantry in the frontline, a decent chunk of the navy, and possibly the air force will stay on your side. Along with the rest of the advisors, a couple of generals, admirals, and chiefs of staff will fill the blank ranks. The colonies in one hand, French Polynesia and Guyana, stay loyal to the cause. So to speak, the entirety of the French industry has gone to the Germans and the Vichy collaborators. It is best to start appealing to those overseas territories that have been joined the Vichy. Use coups or promising decisions and bonuses and research the necessary equipment. The colonies that are almost all in Vichy possession will soon fall onto Free Frances hands, by focus and by decision. The farther from the Axis the safer it is to rebuilt and rearm. Indochina is a guaranteed first win, which it will be claimed instantly. Worry less about Japan, as nonetheless the Asian Co Prosperity sphere faction is already in war with the Allies. Take the necessary focuses and make sure the focuses "Intervention In (French Colony)" is taken quickly from the farthest to the closest to the Metropole before Vichy France declares war upon the Allies and joins the Axis formally.
The last battle with the Germans was clearly complacency and a mistake of our part, but the chance to restore the nation's honour shall not be missed. A naval invasion will surely go unnoticed. Prior to joining against Germany, use your navy and air force to assert total control on the Channel. At the same time, organize a few naval invasion spots. Land in Dunkirk and Cherbourg, and have a handful of troops at disposal. As the Channel supremacy is taken care of, the forces should land in a couple of coastal tiles. If successful, rush to sweep all the way down south until Paris is liberated. Then, take the fight to the Axis. Should the Vichy remain neutral even in this war, take almost all the bordering lands with Vichy and annex them by event, henceforth uniting the French lands and dissolving the Vichy Government.
Now the control of the French lands has been taken by Free France. And obviously the next war wont be in Africa or Middle East, but rather chasing the Axis back to their capital. Certainly, Germany has the largest chunk of stolen French land. To provide a proper liberation, it is best that Germany is taken out of commission. Go for the Lowlands; liberating Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Avoid going for the river protected cores, as they are costly to take in terms of manpower. Once it is done, pin, rush and outmaneuver the German units, encircling them in the process until reaching Berlin. Next stop is to bring the fight to Italy. Cut through the Franco-Italian border south of Switzerland while also pushing south through Germany. If you have troops in French Algeria and/or you took Libya, naval invade from across the Mediterranean. Parts of the Balkans will resist you, but they are less defended. Keep in mind that Hungary is in the faction too, and their capitulation comes as a second priority. Do not go for the Balkans yet, solely take the entirety of North Italy, rush to Rome while your Mediterranean troops push north from Naples to Rome. While the fight is occurring, Hungary will be less of a problem due to split attention with the Soviets. Try to assist the Allies next before they liberate the Balkans. With the Peace Conference next, reclaim land that was lost to Vichy France and Italy, and take extras if needed.
